How to OCR Images and/or PDF files that contain Images using Document Converter Pro.
By cb on April 23, 2010 03:37

Simply put, OCR means recognizing text in a scanned image. When you convert this image to PDF using Document Converter Pro you will obtain a file that is searchable. In order to OCR Images and/or PDF files than contain images the following steps need to be completed:

  1. Download DC Pro from here and install it.
  2. Start the converter by double clicking on your DC Pro desktop icon.
  3. In the main conversion interface click Settings -> Folders -> double click on the Folder to Scan for which you want to enable OCR -> Document Parsers -> double click on Image/OCR parser ->  Advanced Settings -> check Make searchable/Run OCR when converting to PDF. If the checkbox is grayed out that means support for recognizing text (OCR) is not installed on your machine. To install it run the MsOffice 2003 or 2007 installer and make sure you add Microsoft Office Document Imaging.
  4. Go back to the main Document Parsers interface and click on the File Associations tab and under File Type locate the two PDF extensions listed in there double click on each one and instead of PSPDF as a parser select IMAGE/OCR then click OK followed by Apply.
  5. Submit an image or a PDF that contains an image to the Input folder for which you enabled OCR.
